Hand Drawn Text Generator

A combining vertical tilde is added above every letter and digit, so sketch becomes s̾k̾e̾t̾c̾h̾ and notes becomes n̾o̾t̾e̾s̾. The letterforms themselves do not change — this is a mark laid over ordinary type, which is what makes it paste anywhere without a font to install.

The effect is a single character from the Combining Diacritical Marks block: the Combining Vertical Tilde, U+033E. It is appended after each letter, and the renderer draws it above that letter rather than beside it. So draft comes out d̾r̾a̾f̾t̾ and 2030 comes out 2̾0̾3̾0̾ — the same squiggle over every character, giving a rough, pencilled-over look.

Worth being clear about what that means: the letters underneath are the letters you typed. Nothing is redrawn into a sketchy alphabet. If you need genuinely irregular letterforms, you want an installed typeface; what you get here is a mark that travels with the text into a bio, a caption or a page title where a typeface cannot follow.

Three things the mark does to your text

• It stops the text being findable. The mark sits between every pair of letters, so a plain search for sketch will not match s̾k̾e̾t̾c̾h̾ — the characters are no longer adjacent. Removing every U+033E gives the original word back exactly, which is the fix if you need the text searchable again.
• It doubles the character count without changing the width. sketch is 6 characters typed and 12 stored, while still occupying 6 letter-widths on screen. Fields that count characters rather than glyphs will see the larger number, so a tight bio limit runs out sooner than it looks like it should.
• It skips letters that already carry an accent. Only unaccented A–Z, a–z and 0–9 are in the set, so café comes out c̾a̾f̾é — three marked letters and a bare é. Spaces, hyphens and punctuation are left alone too, which is why hand-drawn gives h̾a̾n̾d̾-d̾r̾a̾w̾n̾ with the hyphen untouched.

Styling notes

• Keep it to a few words. A mark over every character is texture, and texture competes with reading. Headers and labels hold up; paragraphs turn into work.
• Height varies by typeface. The tilde is positioned by the font, not by this page, so it sits a little higher or lower depending on where it lands. Check it in the place it will actually be read.
• Watch for stacking on decomposed input. If text arrives with its accents stored as separate marks rather than as single characters, the tilde stacks on top of the accent instead of replacing it, and the result gets crowded. Pasting through a plain-text field first clears it.
• Keep the plain version. The styling is easy to strip but tedious to edit around, so hold on to the unmarked text if the wording may change.

The mark is fragile — some controls remove it entirely

This page only recognises plain A–Z, a–z and 0–9. Anything the toolbar hands it outside that set comes through untouched, which changes what each control is good for.

• Mix Font deletes the effect. It restyles the selection in the input box, before the mark is added. Bold turns sketch into 𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡, and Monospace, Script and Double Struck do the same in their own alphabets — none of which are in this set, so no tilde is applied to any of them. Reach for it only when you want a word to step out of the style.
• Symbol inserts stay unmarked. Symbols go into the input and run through the same pass, so a ✎ arrives with no tilde on it: ✎ s̾k̾e̾t̾c̾h̾. That is the clean way to add a pencil or pen glyph without it picking up texture of its own.
• Separator and Wrap are the safe pair. Both act on the finished line, so the marks survive. Separator replaces the gaps between words — d̾r̾a̾f̾t̾ – n̾o̾t̾e̾s̾ — and Wrap brackets the whole result: {s̾k̾e̾t̾c̾h̾}. An em dash separator reads as a pen stroke and stays in register.
• Export Image renders the marked line to PNG, JPG or WebP. Since combining marks are the first thing a strict input filter drops, this is the reliable route when the destination will not keep them.
